Huge congratulations to Dr. Jürgen Buchenau on the official release of his new book, The United States and Mexico: Unequal Neighbors, published by Bloomsbury Academic!

This new addition to the American Ways series offers a lively, accessible, and essential overview of the deeply intertwined histories of the U.S. and Mexico. Dr. Buchenau explores the complex dynamics of the world’s longest border between a wealthy industrialized nation and the Global South, unpacking critical historical themes such as territorial expansion, the Mexican Revolution of 1910, resource disputes, and labor migration. Ultimately, the book delivers a powerful argument showing how Mexico’s cultural, economic, and political influence on the United States remains just as significant as the inverse.
