Morgan Gray

Morgan Gray is a scholar of gender, law, and emotions specializing in late colonial Peru. Her dissertation, Beyond Honor: Historicizing Sexual Coercion in Late Colonial Lima, 1750-1821, focuses on the ways in which culture, law, and emotions intersected to create women’s individual experiences of sexual assault. Having received her doctorate in Atlantic History from Florida International University in 2022, her research continues to explore the link between jurisdictions and emotions, seeking to examine the ways in which the courtroom reflects and affects victims’ processing of their traumas. Her course offerings include classes on on sexuality, gender, and colonial power in Latin America, the Global South, and the United States.
