Prize given to the best paper written for HIST 3600 (previously HIST 2600) History Skills Seminar

  • Nomination Process:

    • Nomination by faculty: HIST 3600 instructors nominate their strongest paper in the course

    • Students must still apply via the NinerScholars Portal

  • Eligibility:

    • A committee, consisting of that semester’s HIST 2600 faculty, chooses the winner from the nominated papers

  • Additional Information:

    • Suggested minimum paper length with footnotes and bibliography: 10-12 pages

Battista Undergraduate Student Award

Nancy Battista, who earned both undergraduate and graduate degrees in history at UNC Charlotte, established this fund to promote research among undergraduate students in the Department of History

Jarvis-Zapata Study Abroad Scholarship – Spring and Summer

  • Eligibility:

    • All history majors at all class levels

    • Demonstrated financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid

    • Demonstrated academic achievement, as determined by the administering college, department, or office

    • All applicants must successfully complete Study Abroad 101 prior to the application deadline to be eligible to apply

  • Application Deadline:

    • For spring study abroad: End of fall semester

    • For summer study abroad: April 1, 2023

Sanford V. Davenport Undergraduate Scholarship

This scholarship was made possible by the generous contribution of Charles Mahan

  • Nomination Process:

  • Eligibility:

    • Full-time history majors at the Sophomore, Junior or Senior level

    • College GPA = 3.00-4.00

    • GPA in history = minimum 3.50

  • Additional Information:

    • If selected as a recipient of this scholarship, in the academic year you receive the award you must: enroll in Davenport Honors Seminar HIST 4797 during the fall semester (unless you have already taken the course, in that case you may select an alternate history course) and enroll in no less than one additional History course

Ruff-Lansen Scholarship

This scholarship was made possible by the generous contribution of Ellen and Tom Ruff. It is meant to provide scholarship assistance to an undergraduate student within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences in pursuit of a semester or year-long study abroad experience (an extended summer term abroad may be considered) that focuses on historical inquiry and/or skill development (broadly defined). The study abroad experience chosen must be approved by the Office of Education Abroad.

    • Eligible Major(s): All College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Majors

    • Full time Sophomore, Junior or Senior

    • College GPA = 3.00-4.00

    • Demonstrated financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid

    • U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident

    • All applicants must successfully complete Study Abroad 101 prior to the application deadline to be eligible to apply

    • Enroll in a program with either an historical focus, or take at least fifty percent of your study abroad courses in history or history-related subjects

  • Additional Information:

    • Study abroad for a semester or a year

    • Extended summer study abroad terms may be considered

    • Student must make a presentation of their experience at the appropriate venue upon return

Gregory Mixon-Sonya Ramsey Black Lives Matter Scholarship

This scholarship was made possible by the generous contribution of Faculty and staff in the UNC Charlotte History Department. Its purpose is to provide an annual scholarship to a student in good standing, majoring in History, and who has demonstrated a commitment to promoting racial justice.
